We all want to make changes in our lives, whether it’s to become better at the work we do, improve our health and wellness, improve our relationships, or engage with the practices of this program. In the process there are always obstacles that derail us from our intentions. Obstacles will arise in the form of thoughts such as questioning, “There’s more important things to do.” Maybe there are some painful sensations that arise when we practice that serve as a deterrent. Our minds may say that the “conditions aren’t right,” “I just can’t find the time,” I was so “bored”, “I got too irritated or overwhelmed with emotion.” As we become familiar with our common obstacles to practice, we can learn to label them, step outside of them, and refocus on what’s most important. The ACE practice can help us do this.
